Fixing Drainage Problems on Asphalt Pavement

If water sits on your pavement for more than an hour after rain, you have a drainage defect that will shorten the pavement's life.

Diagnosing

Photograph puddles right after rain, measure their depth, and note whether they sit at low points, along curb lines or near structures. That pattern tells us whether the issue is grade, a settled basin or a clogged line.

Common fixes

Leveling course and overlay to re-establish pitch, catch basin installation or rebuild, trench drains at garage thresholds, and swale regrading at pavement edges.

Do not ignore birdbaths

Standing water accelerates raveling, strips the binder and freezes into an ice hazard.
