Resurfacing vs. Full Replacement: How to Decide

An overlay costs far less than reconstruction, but only if your base is still sound. Here is how we make that call.

Overlay is appropriate when

The base is stable, cracking is limited and non-structural, drainage works, and grades allow the extra 1.5"-2" of height at thresholds and curbs.

Replacement is required when

There is widespread alligator cracking, recurring potholes, visible base pumping, or the pavement has already been overlaid once or twice.

Core sampling

On large commercial projects we take cores to measure existing section thickness and evaluate base condition before recommending either path.
